Samer Al-Azem

Samer Al-Azem received his J.D. in December 1994 from the University of Houston Law Center. Prior to that, he had received both a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and a Masters of Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1989 and 1991 respectively.

During his engineering educational tenure, Samer was a member of Tau Beta Pi (an Engineering Honor Society), Alpha Pi Mu (an Industrial Engineering Honor Society), and Beta Theta Pi (a social fraternity). While in law school, in addition to participating in various mock trial and moot court competitions, Samer assisted in coaching the University of Houston National Intellectual Property Moot Court Team.

Before attending law school, Samer worked as an engineer with Schlumberger in Sugar Land, Texas. Subsequently, after receiving his law degree, Samer joined Matthews and Associates L.L.P. in 1995 where he was an associate for five years before becoming the General Counsel for Zakhem Investments America, Inc. Thereafter, Samer joined McGlinchey Stafford, P.L.L.C. where he was involved in all aspects of that sizeable firm’s commercial litigation and Intellectual Property practice. In 2002, Mr. Al-Azem became a partner at Matthews, Lawson, Bowick & Al-Azem, P.L.L.C. where he primarily practiced in the Intellectual Property arena and handled a myriad of patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and business tort related litigation.

Samer Al-Azem is admitted to practice law in the State of Texas, before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Southern District of Texas and the Eastern District of Texas, the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, and the United States Tax Court. He has co-authored and presented two very well received seminars entitled “Law of the Internet in Texas” and “Privacy Law.”
